Course Description

This course provides participants with the skills and knowledge required to perform advanced resuscitation, including oxygen therapy equipment and specialised resuscitation techniques.

The following units will be included in your certificate:

  • HLTAID015 - Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy
  • HLTAID009 - Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

Entry Requirements / Pre-requisites

Students undertaking HLTAID015 Provide Advanced Resuscitation and Oxygen Therapy must be able to meet the practical, identification, pre-requisite and learning requirements of the course.

  • Provide an official form of photo identification, such as a driver licence, passport or student ID.
  • Have the physical capability to complete practical demonstration skills, including CPR and rescue breathing techniques on manikins. CPR must be performed on the floor with no exemptions.
  • Hold the pre-requisite unit HLTAID011 Provide First Aid before undertaking HLTAID015. Please note: HLTAID003 Provide first aid is not equivalent to HLTAID011 Provide First Aid and cannot be used as a substitute for this pre-requisite.
  • Have the language, literacy, numeracy and digital skills needed to follow oxygen/resuscitation equipment instructions, complete incident reports, communicate clearly in emergency scenarios, monitor timing and oxygen flow rates, and access online learning resources.
  • Have access to a computer, smart phone, tablet or other internet-connected device to complete online learning and assessment tasks where required.

Online pre-course learning and theory assessment may be required before the face-to-face practical session.

Course Duration
Face-to-face: at least 6 hours. Online with face-to-face assessment: at least 3 hours 30 minutes face-to-face contact time. Course durations can vary; these are minimum possible durations.

Assessment Activities

Assessment includes written and practical tasks.

  • Perform CPR on an adult, including use of bag-valve-masks, oxygen equipment, an AED and placing the casualty into the recovery position.
  • Perform CPR on an infant.
  • Manage a casualty with a life-threatening bleed and provide oxygen.
  • Complete an incident report.
  • Maintain resuscitation equipment.
  • Complete a written theory assessment consisting of multiple-choice questions.
